Health Benefits of Muntries

Tuesday, May 15, 2018

Muntries (also called Emu Apple), fruit in summertime in Southern parts of Australia.  They not only taste great but they have a perfumed aroma.  They taste like spicy apples and juniper berries.

Indigenous people ate and still eat them.  They were an important food source which they dried then baked into cakes and also traded amongst themselves for other things they needed.

They contain calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, sodium and fibre.  Muntries also contain 2x the amount of phenolic compounds (antioxidants) over Blueberries.

Mix them into fruit salads, into healthy desserts (similar to sultanas) or enjoy them just as they are (my preference).

Look out for them coming soon at NATIF.
